Throughout our business, we are committed to giving young people the opportunity to progress. That’s why we were one of the first businesses to sign the Social Mobility Pledge.

Becoming a Social Mobility Pledge accredited employer demonstrates commitment to accessing and progressing talent from all backgrounds. The Pledge was launched by Justine Greening MP and the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility in Spring 2018, and over two million UK employees are now covered.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be taking a look at how our commitment to social mobility over the years has helped to support career progression in our business.

Gregg Lang, Head Of Adviser Services

I joined True Potential in June 2011, starting life in the Adviser Implementation department of True Potential Adviser Services.

Prior to that, I worked in technical support for Northern Rock, assisting mortgage brokers and advisers with technical queries, installing software and general usability.

My first role at True Potential was an Implementation Engineer. I quickly learnt that True Potential operated at a very fast pace and was certainly different to that of a large building society or bank. The role itself was very similar to my previous position but far more challenging and complex. Having a strong background in technology and gaining a vast amount of experience working with brokers and advisers in my previous employment, True Potential was an ideal fit for me.

Today, I oversee all of True Potential Adviser Services and have a place on the True Potential Group Board. My title is Head of True Potential Adviser Services, which covers a wide range of responsibilities including running the day to day operations whilst looking after 670 directly authorised firms.

Although I had a strong tech background, I felt I lacked confidence and doubted my ability to communicate my thoughts and ideas. But working at True Potential has allowed me to grow in confidence as well as experience and I regularly present to large audiences of industry professionals.

Having a mentor has been vital in enabling me to continue to develop and move through the ranks, having countless opportunities to try my hand at something new.
